Jellyfish Spotted along Goan Shoreline
In the recent years, jellyfish spotting along the coastal beaches of Goa are become a common phenomena. But this year it has increased it’s presence along the state coastline. Many locals, and tourist were shocked to see the jellyfish surface along the shores of their favorite beach. Sightings of jellyfish are reported along the Salcete coastline – from Mobor to Velsao.
Why do jellyfish wash ashore?
A combination of strong currents, severe winds and the weak propulsion system of the jellyfish makes these creatures susceptible to washing ashore. Jellyfish have only a weak internal pumping mechanism that allows them to float, but they cannot steer away from danger. When jellyfish are caught in a strong current, they have no means of escape. When they wash up on shore, jellyfish quickly dry out and die. [As per reference.com]
