Grandson of Goa is new Multan bishop
A grandson of Fuldem vaddo, Nagoa, Bardez, Fr Benny Mario Travas was on Sunday ordained as the bishop of the Multan diocese in Pakistan.
Travas, a former vicar general of the Archdiocese of Karachi, was appointed bishop by Pope Francis in May this year following the resignation of his predecessor, Bishop Andrew Francis, in June 2014.
Fr Travas, 49, did his ecclesiastical studies at Karachi and was ordained in December 1990. In 1997, he obtained a licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. After his return to Pakistan, he has held several positions in the Church hierarchy till his elevation as bishop this year.
