Goa to have Mangrove park soon
Goa is all set to have its first mangroves park in the state. Its said to be a joint collaboration by the state government and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
A mangrove park consist of long boardwalk along the mangrove plantations. The park can provide educational and recreational experience to all. This will be a great addition to the Goa’s tourism map. And definitely a boost to the eco-tourism in the state.
So why are these mangroves so important you might ask?
The mangroves in Goa are under tremendous threat with growing pollution and massive land development. Mangroves are important part of the ecosystem ,as they are buffers between the land and the sea. Coastal erosion are common sight with rising sea levels due to global warming and mangroves help to lessen these type of assault of the sea. Mangrove forests are also the breeding and nursery grounds for a number of marine organisms like the prawns, crab and fish species.
