Making a difference with colour…
I keep reading about different political big shots talks about how they would make a difference to their cities as a part of the whole “Swachh Bharat” initiative; a campaign by the Government of India to clean the streets of and infrastructure of a considerable part of the country. It’s a good initiative I have to say and better late than never. But I want to tell you about an amazing group I recently read about that has literally transformed the looks of Chennai with paint.
They are known as “Paint Box” and are a group of 10 young adults who are doing the magic in their city. Their area of expertise- transforming a dirty, unkempt street wall into a canvas to portray some beautiful art work. Then end result? An absolutely new look to the streets, a definite treat to the eyes of all those who pass by! Their efforts have been recognized and many have joined in the effort, volunteering at their weekly meets and other regular events.
There have been many times I’ve simply overlooked the ugly, poster filled walls of Mumbai. I was so used to the sight that I almost didn’t notice it anymore, but here we see how a small initiative that started by repainting their own backyard wall (literally) has now led them to cover approximately 3 kilometres stretch of walls in Chennai.
Their work really gives us something to think about. If something bothers us about our city or locality, grumbling about it wouldn’t help as much as doing something to right it yourself.
If you are interested in their work you can look up Paint Box on facebook. I also found a video of them at work to give you a glimpse of the beautiful results from their labour …..Be Inspired!!
