Aiming for a heartfelt “goal”
Geez, I’d never thought I’d ever be writing about football, but here I am.. I’m not a big Football fan (Don’t judge me!! 😛 it just doesn’t work its magic on me), but I have to admit if there is anything that has tremendous influence over people, it’s football!
When a new football season starts, the transfer windows open (it was until recently) all you hear about is talks of which club is buying who, who is selling which player and while club rivalry does exist, it cannot be denied that they do have underlying unified passion- football!
So, I have to give credit to Clubs when they take a social stand for something that benefits society, simply because the whole football family (which is incredibly huge) is watching!
We all have been following the Refugee crises on the news, and now Football is doing something about it. While the big names Real Madrid , Bayern Munich and Celtic have individually put in huge money, European Club AS Roma has taken a different approach and started an initiative called “Football Cares” to help the ongoing Refugee crises that’s affecting a large part of Europe and the Middle East.
As a part of the Initiative they have donated a sum of €575000 as well put up three of their star players jerseys for auction to raise money for the cause.
A lot of clubs like Inter Milan, Florentina , Bologona etc, have joined in and responded as well with their donations after this. I even read that the European Club Association (ECA) announced that clubs competing in the Champions League have committed to donate €1 every ticket sold in their first European match this season!
Roma aims to unite the Football Community – the clubs, fans and business partners through this initiative. If you are interested in knowing more details you can visit their Football Cares page, you can also bid on auctioned items put up on their page at CharityStars and help do your bit.
