What are the first things you think of when somebody says the word San Francisco? Maybe the hills. Or the cable cars. Or the worlds crookedest street. But the city by the bay has so much more to offer the visitor. Youll find plenty to do and see while youre visiting this special city. One of the great things about San Francisco is that you can comfortably walk the city nearly year round. The weather is never really too cold for enjoying the outside and the city is so beautiful; a nice walk is a great transportation alternative to check out all that San Francisco has to offer. And, should your legs begin to feel a little sore from walking, all you have to do is hitch a ride on one of San Frans famous cable cars until you arrive at your next destination. The cable car is unique to San Francisco, the city where the trolley was first used, and is a perfect way to start getting acquainted with San Francisco culture. And while youre exploring the city, take a trip down to Fishermans Wharf. Visit Pier 39 and experience the culture and activities offered there. Pier 39 is famous for its great shopping center, which is filled with shops, games, and street performers. Take a look off the piers and catch a glimpse of the local residents of the dockssea lions! Fishermans Wharf is also the place to go if youre looking for great seafood. While there are dozens of fun or elegant eateries that will strike your fancy, be sure to grab a meal at Boudins and try their famous sourdough bread (you can watch it being made!) and unbeatable clam chowder. The Wharf area is simply brimming with fun; dont overlook this landmark area! For a real taste of San Francisco culture, get off the usual tourist path and check out the local neighborhoods. From North Beach to Chinatown, each neighborhood offers an experience of its own that you wont find in any other city. The neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury is one of the highlights of San Francisco. Considered the Bohemian haven of the city, this neighborhood is the artistic birthplace of such legendary musicians as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and Janis Joplin. These musical geniuses have left their personal on this district. Haight-Ashbury also has some small but great local restaurants, bars and shops, including Amoeba Music, a bowling alley that was converted into a record store. Here you can locate almost any type of music you can think of, with an enormous variety of old-fashioned, vinyl. And just a short distance from this district is also located the Golden Gate Parka large, gorgeous park that resembles New York Citys Central Park. Chinatown is one of the busiest areas of San Francisco. A stroll down any of its narrow streets will include delicious aromas wafting from home kitchens and the many restaurants. Meanwhile, your ears can feast on the sounds of Chinese mixed with occasional English as you move past cluttered stores. Its like a trip into an exotic culture. So while planning your San Francisco get-away, make sure your itinerary takes you off the beaten path. In San Fran you will find unique adventures everywhere you turn. Immerse yourself in the culture of the city; its the only way to enjoy San Francisco!
